Millions of home-based workers (HBWs), most of whom are women, lack recognition as workers by governments and employers. Their exclusion from labor laws creates a major barrier to securing their rights at work and accessing remedies when those rights are violated.
This session at NGO CSW70 will highlight how HBWs’ organizations step in where legal systems fall short, supporting workers in their pursuit of justice. Through capacity-building, advocacy, and support services such as safe spaces, counseling, and legal aid, they empower workers. These experiences demonstrate why organizing is the first step toward access to justice for women HBWs workers and why these organizations must be strengthened.
