Webinar – Advocating for the Ratification of ILO C177

On July 28, 2023, we held the webinar  “Advocating for the Ratification of ILO C177”. With 146 participants from around the world, we engaged in insightful discussions about the significance of ratifying International Labour Organization’s Convention 177 and its history. The event featured an inclusive atmosphere with simultaneous interpretation available in eight languages, and an insightful Q&A session at the end.

Thank you to all who participated and contributed to this meaningful dialogue on home-based workers’ need for recognition and their right to C177. For those who could not attend, you can find all of the highlights on this page. We encourage everyone to explore the key takeaways and join us in promoting a fair and equitable future for all workers!

Way Forward

Moving forward, we have several suggestions to take action on advocating for ILO C177:

  1. We emphasize the importance of continuing our dialogue on C177 at national, regional, and global levels.
  1. We aim to work collaboratively on a campaign focused on the ratification of ILO Convention 177. While ratification remains our primary goal, each country has the opportunity to work on forming guidelines or policies for home-based workers, either at the province or country level.

To kickstart this effort, HNI plans to launch a campaign on October 20th, which also marks Home-Based Workers Day. We extend an earnest invitation to all our affiliates, trade unions, and sister organizations to unite with us in this critical campaign. Together, we can work towards creating a brighter future for home-based workers and advancing their rights.
