HomeNet Africa identified a Fundraising and Sustainability Plan as a key priority for the year, with training as one of its outputs. Members applied to participate, and their applications were carefully reviewed to assess their readiness for resource mobilization and proposal writing, as well as their organizations’ capacity to apply for, receive, implement, and report on funding.
The training was designed using a two-step approach to maximize reach with limited resources. A virtual training engaged a larger group of 38 participants, while an in-person training brought together a smaller group of 16 participants selected from 94 applicants across eight countries: Ghana, Liberia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya.
The trainings took place from 3 to 15 December 2025 (virtual) and from 26 to 30 January 2026 (in person). They focused on the following areas:
- Understanding resource mobilization and fundraising
- Practical steps in resource mobilization
- Designing a resource mobilization strategy, including planning and development
- Introduction to writing winning proposals, including step-by-step guidance and project design
- Project cycle management
- Designing bankable projects and proposals
- Experiential donor pitching through a Donor Marketplace
- Effective communication and organizational branding
