2022 was the first time that HNI African affiliates and allied organisations took the initiative to plan their own way to celebrate International Home-Based Workers Day; as home-based workers always joined or participated in activities initiated at the global level. After discussing several ways of how Homenet Africa could celebrate the date, they decided to organise a photo contest, where both the affiliates and team members shared pictures of their celebrations.

The idea came up during a Capacity Building Session on the significance of the International Home- based Workers Day, which analysed the Kathmandu Declaration 2000. The session was ably led by Betty Lunkuse and Jemimah Nyakongo in their capacity as the regional representatives of the HNI Working Committee, and Chris Bonner, HNI’s Advisor and former Director of WIEGO ORP, was asked to select the best picture and the winning photo was to earn a prize!

Below you can find the contest winners, as well as other photos of the celebration.

The Winners: 2 home-based workers from Uganda.
