In November 2023 HomeNet South Asia (HNSA) held a webinar on the issue of climate change which provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges faced by individuals working from home. The discussion centred on three critical aspects: drought, extreme heating, and excessive rains, and their repercussions on the livelihoods and well-being of home-based workers.

The three HBW speakers from Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka highlighted how changing climate is impacting their day-to-day work and shared the ways they have adopted to mitigate the challenges at an individual level.

The key speakers of the webinar, Ms Shalini Sinha from WIEGO and Ms Bijal Brahmbhatt from Mahila Housing Trust (MHT), emphasised the need for climate adopting sustainable solutions and practices. They further emphasised the importance of resilience and preparedness for such events.

Overall, the webinar served as a valuable platform for raising awareness about the intersection of climate change and home-based work in South Asia, inspiring participants to actively engage in building a more sustainable and resilient future for home-based workers in the face of the changing climate.
