HomeNet International affiliates in Kenya, including Smolart Self Help Group, Kisii Soapstone Carvers Cooperative (KISCOOP), Undugu Tabaka Supplies CBO, Machakos Cooperative Union (MCU), HomeNet Kenya and Heavenly Treasures Investment Self Help Group, participated in focused group discussions for the climate change research study “Pathways to Address Climate-Related Challenges Faced by HBWs, HNI, 2025–26.”
The overall goal is to document working solutions that can strengthen HBWs’ resilience and inform inclusive decisions for social protection or policy, to share with key stakeholders including HBWs, HBW organizations, civil society, government agencies, research institutions and relevant national, regional and international organizations.
The discussions took place on 26 November 2025 and focused on the following areas:
- The nature of home-based work
- The major challenges that affect their work and work ability
- The climate-related changes experienced over the years
- How these climate-related changes impact their lives in general
- How these climate-related changes impact their home-based work
- How they deal with these impacts
- Measures that have helped HBWs
- What needs to be done to reduce the risks arising from climate change
The structure of the discussions included separate sessions for HBWs and HBW leaders, with six participants in each group.
