Between February and April 2025, Ngalo Buwereza Organization (NBO-Uganda), a national network of home-based workers, conducted a series of training sessions across seven regions of Uganda, including Mgigi, Kayunga, Central, Western, Eastern, Wakiso, and Mukono. These training programs aimed to empower home-based workers with the knowledge and skills needed to establish and manage Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs), fostering a solidarity economy that enhances market access and financial security for members.

The sessions covered essential topics such as how to start a SACCO, the benefits that a well-managed SACCO can provide to its members—including access to savings and loans—and the rules and regulations governing SACCO operations. Participants also learned about the registration process and the importance of membership fees, which are crucial for joining and sustaining a SACCO.

Through these trainings, NBO-Uganda is strengthening the financial independence of home-based workers across the country, promoting collective savings, improved access to credit, and greater economic resilience. This initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to building a solidarity economy that empowers workers and enhances their livelihoods
