On March 20, 2024, HomeNet Southeast Asia (HNSEA) partnered with the Social Protection Program of Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) to host a Research Validation Workshop for a study led by Dr. Rene Ofreneo and his team from the University of the Philippines (UP). The research, titled “Voice for the Voiceless: Building Spaces for Social Dialogue on Rights of Informal Workers in ASEAN/Southeast Asia,” focuses on informal workers from Cambodia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The main objectives of this workshop were to highlight the initial findings from the regional study, seek feedback on the accuracy of the information gathered, and collect the advice on how to improve and disseminate the research paper effectively.

While the workshop involved the research team members, WIEGO, and HNSEA, it also included representatives of sister organisations such as the International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF), the StreetNet International (SNI), and various trade union alliances including the ASEAN Trade Union Council (ATUC) and the ASEAN Service Employees Trade Union Council (ASETUC). Additionally, civil society organisations such as Oxfam International and the Asian Round Table on Social Protection (AROSP), as well as representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and the International Labour Organization (ILO) will also be present.
